Raul Rothblatt
Partner, Jumbie Records
Raul Rothblatt is a founding partner of Jumbie Records. He has three bands:
- Kakande, manager, cellist
- Életfa, manager, bassist, utógárdon player
- Dallam-Dougou, bandleader, manager, cellist, African fiddle player
- His newest band, Metró Folk, plays Hungarian village music.
In addition to his Jumbie activities, he is active in community building in New York.
- He is the communications director for 227 Duffield Street, an Abolitionist home. He has been effective in turning this building into a museum of Abolitionist and Underground Railroad history, and by partnering with Brooklyn advocates, 227 Duffield has been saved from the wrecking ball. The New York City Economic Development Corporation had wanted to tear the building down to build an underground parking lot. He writes on this issue at the Duffield Street blog.
- Raul is the Executive Director of the Four Borough Neighborhood Preservation Alliance Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to working with civic groups from Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island to promote sensible development.
- Co-chair of the Arts & Cultural Committee of the United African Congress.
